Convocation Photography

It has been almost every parents' wish to have a proper family portrait. Especially my mum, she brought it up quite frequently to me lately. We have not been taking any family portraits for like more than 10 years and some of them have already been used for our baby sister's assignment.

I have goggle for some recommendation. Here there are:

1. Serangoon Broadway
Okie. They aren't recommended.
What's good: Range of package to choose from to suit different needs. Offer traditional family portrait shots. Provides extremely basic makeup.Very established.

What's not: Serangoon Broadway has almost monopolize the market for years and is the main supplier for our graduation gowns. However, I was rather turn off after reading so many bad reviews on them. They are known to hard-sell, very lousy service attitude and even ugly (old-fashioned) outputs. Although I have not seen for myself how bad, I choose to believe the forums. (In fact, i have not encountered anyone with good feedback.)

Update: The rates are available and also giving a special 20 % discount off. Different rate for individual and family. So if you are interested in taking both, just add up the cost. It's not cheap (if compared against Clementi Bright.).

2. Decharacter
What's good: I like particularly their unconventional graduation shots. Besides graduation shots, they do various kind of photography as well. Provide grooming as well. Also comes in various convo package.

What's not: I will choose them when I have cash to spare and it seems like for my family of 5, it will cost me $499! Dont know if my mum would want to pay this much.

3. Gloria Studio and Bridal Boutique
What's good: Very popular with the forumers. Known for their excellent and friendly service. They provide affordable package and offer traditional family shots too.

What's not: I read that they don't offer make-up, so do it on your own.

4.Portrait Gallery
What's good: It shows a well balanced mixture of traditional and "not-very-conservative" shots.

What's not: Not much is said about the package offered on the website and nothing mentioned on the forums. So hard to comment eh?

5. Clementi Bright
What's good: Their shots are not-too-conservative kind. My parents used to have their wedding photos taken there 24 years ago! haha. This studio is also quite popular with NUS grads, likely b'cos of the location.

What's not: I have also read about some bad service from them. But those who have gone there for professional shots/passport photo can probably verify this.

Update: Just went there for resume photos. I guess their service were quite good. They offered me 4 types of graduation and family package and of cos, for family of more than 5, they recommended me Package C which cost $480 (1 family portrait 20" X 24" + 1 individual 8" X 10"). They can supply the gown but if make-up and hairstyling is chargeable at $50/person. *Gasp*

6. Werkz
What's good: This studio, located at Albert Mall (near Sim lim Square) specializes in graduation shots. One of the highly recommended ones by the forumers. Heard they do offer affordable package as well. They have another sister studio, Raffles studio who does similar shots as well.

What's not: It does not offer make-up. DIY make-up. Only provide pins and gel to keep your hair in decent state.

7. Beauty Box
What's good: Excellent but pricey as quoted from some forum. But also highly recommended if you dont mind paying more for the shots. Includes make-up, hair grooming and very "natural" digital touch up. Heard good and nice friendly service. I'm quite keen on the individual shots one. :P

What's not: It's expensive, considering that if u have a family of more than 4 persons. Additional cost added per person to the package. No gown provided too.

These few studio are recommended by the forums and the same old rule applies. Different people has different preferences. The studio website might not be that reliable afterall, so dont always simply judge by these outputs. Best is to hunt around for good offers and see their sample outputs at the studio itself since most of them didnt quote any package. If anyone who has other recommendation, please feel free to comment. :)
