Movie Review: Sex and the City

I have been SATC-ed a few hours ago. Although I haven caught any episodes of SATC, I love this show. It was so visually appealing and I am not referring to the 4 ladies in the show. But the clothes they wear, the bags they have, the Manolo Blahnik heels they wore is enough for me to drool. :) Love it. It's such a girls' show and therefore, best to watch with your gfs. Many funny scenes, extremely funny analogies.

Nope. I wont want to be a spoiler but there's some lessons i have taken home with me.

1. A walk-in wardrobe (like Carrie's new home) serves much purpose than a diamond ring. Something which I really really want in my future home - a walk-in wardrobe fills with many clothes for all occasion, shoes of all sorts.

2. Your gfs are always there for u. And be there for them too.

:) Enjoy the show!

momo's bedroom revamp phase one

Posted by Picasa

This marks the first phase of my bedroom revamp. Hmm. Maybe not much of a revamp. Got this nice flower decal from Ikea. Haha... You might be going "this is so momo!". :) It's something I always want: a wall with flowers painting. And Sky will go "oh no!" whenever i tell him about this tiny wish of mine. Btw, that gives u a sneak peep into my bedroom. I seldom receive visitors in my humble bedroom.

I have taken really long time to perfect the decoration. phew.. sweat! No idea how long this decal is going to remain there. The adhesiveness is wearing off from my constant tearing and sticking just to get it right. It will be perfect if I can draw it on the wall. Perhaps next time when I DIY-paint my room.

Next will be clearing some of the old stuffs away, start fixing up a wooden mini drawer set (which i bought 2 years ago from Ikea) and do some art work with it. *Grin* But first, i need to locate its whereabouts.Heh.

F*** the China Scammers!

This morning was an extremely dramatic morning, like crimewatch. My mum's cries awoke me and disrupted my beauty sleep. My mum was on the phone with someone and sounded very serious. So upon hearing more, the person on the line claimed to be a loan shark and have captured my brother who helped his friend to be guarantor of a 25k loan. My mum even heard someone (which happens to sound like my brother) crying over the phone, screaming that he got betrayed by his friend. The "loan shark" tried a lot of "pattern" to scare my mum, warn her not to tell anyone and report to the police. Of cos, my mum asked me not to make noise in the background. When my mum told him that we cant raise such amount in the short time, he started hurling vulgarities and started to bargain down to 1k and then to 300 bucks. After a while, he insisted that we shut the windows to prevent anyone from hearing the conversation and on her phone, leaving it there just to make sure there's no noise or someone in the background. He told my mum to remit the money to a place in Beijing using Western Union. By the way, he claimed his surname is "Jian".

From the conversation and the fact that he was very loud over the phone, things got really suspicious.

1. He claimed to be a loan shark and his boss is from China.
(Woah! I didnt know loan shark operations has extended to China and they have a base there!)

2. His accent, bad english pronounciation and refusal to speak Hokkien when my mother spoke Hokkien to him, he is 100% confirmed a Chinaman.
(Infamous for their phone scams. What else? The Land of Fakes... now ah long also fake.)

3. He asked for money to be remitted to a China address.
(I thought loan shark come to your door for money? Now so advance use remittance to China one leh.)

4. He asked my mum where we stayed and of cos, telling him is quite pointless cos' he is a Chinaman.
(I thought loan shark will have copy of the guarantor's IC?)

5. He asked my mum how long will it take for us to go from our house to Bt Timah. And i asked my mum to bluff him 45 mins.
(He believed. LOL. Chinaman mah...)

6.After calming down my mother, i asked her clearly if she confirmed it's my brother voice over the phone. Did the person mention anything about his name?
(The rule of thumb: always check whether they know the name of the "son" or not!)

7. He seems really desperate for money from his bargaining. Desperate ah long. LOL.
(I thought loan shark got loads of money? Why so desperate even for 300?)

So after all the threatening, uttermost important thing was to locate my brother. His hp was engaged and my mum doesn't have his office no. So i practically have to call up his school (for his IA records) and all the branch offices of his company to look for him. The school doesnt have his records (which I thought is so unbelievable) and they claimed that their system cant hold too much information and even if he just graduated this year, the school could have gotten rid of his records. We called the office and the office girl refuses to help and claim no such employee. In the end, we have to make the trip down to his office while on the other hand, lying to the loan shark that we are heading down to remit the money. Thank goodness to another office lady who helped us call the main branch and we managed to get my brother on the line!

Basket! Cheat people also dont know how to cheat! I was incessantly cursing like crazy after the whole scare. I was soooo pissed! Thank goodness I was around. If not my mum could have remit the money he wanted. When he didnt receive the money, he started calling again and there were 31 missed calls on my mum's hp! Persistent idiots! We went to the police to make a police report and while we are talking the policeman, that scammers called again. So i got the policeman to have some nice chat with him. Haha! The policeman was so darn funny. The policeman bluff him that he's my mother's son and questioned why he(the scammers) claimed that he was kidnapped. The policeman went on to say," you know whose her son or not? Policeman leh.". The Chinaman was obviously stunned but he remained very persistent. Still making a last attempt and retorting loudly over the phone that we are lying, the policeman shouted back at him and this time it really scared the shit out of the Chinaman. Damn! I should have picked up his call and fool him 10 times back.

I dont know how the police is going to follow up with the case, with so many China scammers around, i bet the no. of victims who got manipulated emotionally and fall prey are plentiful and many might not even be reported. In fact, this kind of scam is so common and very classic. Either your son is kidnapped/in hospital, need money etc. The policeman even told us that these scammers can even call up the police post to try their scare tactics. haha! So dumb! These scammers are either brainless or they have no parents/kids.

Since these Chinaman likes to cheat so much and "role-play" like loan shark, I would strongly encourage them to watch some Ch8 dramas to learn the modus operandi of our Singapore loan shark. Some even tried to act kind and claimed to raise funds for the Szechuan earthquake victims, making use of their countrymen's poor plight to carry on their scams. Simply Fuckers!

A Short Glimpse of Hope

Sigh. Just when I begin to see some short glimpse of hope...

Okay. It's another false hope. I have to give up the chance to go for the Sentosa Management Associates Program Assessment on the 5th June cos' of my TW trip. Just when I thought I going to have something, I have to let it go. Can u feel how sad I feel? Sometimes, I feel so inferior and demoralized that I just want to hole myself up. Alrite, let's put it in an optimistic way. At least I am beginning to get some response. I should feel happy about it. lalala.

So dont complain when you have choices to choose from, I dont even have a choice.

Convocation Photography

It has been almost every parents' wish to have a proper family portrait. Especially my mum, she brought it up quite frequently to me lately. We have not been taking any family portraits for like more than 10 years and some of them have already been used for our baby sister's assignment.

I have goggle for some recommendation. Here there are:

1. Serangoon Broadway
Okie. They aren't recommended.
What's good: Range of package to choose from to suit different needs. Offer traditional family portrait shots. Provides extremely basic makeup.Very established.

What's not: Serangoon Broadway has almost monopolize the market for years and is the main supplier for our graduation gowns. However, I was rather turn off after reading so many bad reviews on them. They are known to hard-sell, very lousy service attitude and even ugly (old-fashioned) outputs. Although I have not seen for myself how bad, I choose to believe the forums. (In fact, i have not encountered anyone with good feedback.)

Update: The rates are available and also giving a special 20 % discount off. Different rate for individual and family. So if you are interested in taking both, just add up the cost. It's not cheap (if compared against Clementi Bright.).

2. Decharacter
What's good: I like particularly their unconventional graduation shots. Besides graduation shots, they do various kind of photography as well. Provide grooming as well. Also comes in various convo package.

What's not: I will choose them when I have cash to spare and it seems like for my family of 5, it will cost me $499! Dont know if my mum would want to pay this much.

3. Gloria Studio and Bridal Boutique
What's good: Very popular with the forumers. Known for their excellent and friendly service. They provide affordable package and offer traditional family shots too.

What's not: I read that they don't offer make-up, so do it on your own.

4.Portrait Gallery
What's good: It shows a well balanced mixture of traditional and "not-very-conservative" shots.

What's not: Not much is said about the package offered on the website and nothing mentioned on the forums. So hard to comment eh?

5. Clementi Bright
What's good: Their shots are not-too-conservative kind. My parents used to have their wedding photos taken there 24 years ago! haha. This studio is also quite popular with NUS grads, likely b'cos of the location.

What's not: I have also read about some bad service from them. But those who have gone there for professional shots/passport photo can probably verify this.

Update: Just went there for resume photos. I guess their service were quite good. They offered me 4 types of graduation and family package and of cos, for family of more than 5, they recommended me Package C which cost $480 (1 family portrait 20" X 24" + 1 individual 8" X 10"). They can supply the gown but if make-up and hairstyling is chargeable at $50/person. *Gasp*

6. Werkz
What's good: This studio, located at Albert Mall (near Sim lim Square) specializes in graduation shots. One of the highly recommended ones by the forumers. Heard they do offer affordable package as well. They have another sister studio, Raffles studio who does similar shots as well.

What's not: It does not offer make-up. DIY make-up. Only provide pins and gel to keep your hair in decent state.

7. Beauty Box
What's good: Excellent but pricey as quoted from some forum. But also highly recommended if you dont mind paying more for the shots. Includes make-up, hair grooming and very "natural" digital touch up. Heard good and nice friendly service. I'm quite keen on the individual shots one. :P

What's not: It's expensive, considering that if u have a family of more than 4 persons. Additional cost added per person to the package. No gown provided too.

These few studio are recommended by the forums and the same old rule applies. Different people has different preferences. The studio website might not be that reliable afterall, so dont always simply judge by these outputs. Best is to hunt around for good offers and see their sample outputs at the studio itself since most of them didnt quote any package. If anyone who has other recommendation, please feel free to comment. :)

Movie Review: Iron Man

I was not a big fan of Iron man. In fact, no recollection of how Iron man looks like during my times (referring to when I was still a kid.) But nonetheless, I enjoyed this much anticipated show just as much. 3.5/5

As usual, a superhero movie always sticks to the same recipe: good triumph evil and the flower vase damsel in distress. The evil: the terrorists and the father's friend who wants to kill him and desire to take control of the business empire. The flower vase damsel in distress: Gwyneth Paltrow, who goes "Oh, what's that small thingy device?", referring to the bomb to blast open the door. So bimbotic can?!

This movie is slightly different. Lesser action flick, very little romance, many cool technologies. I called the first prototype of his amour the "Tin man". The focus of the movie is more on the process of how he constructed his amour. Nice amour not made of Iron. If you did stay after the credits, you will know what to expect for the sequel. :)

Movie Review: Accuracy of Death

Accuracy of Death (a.k.a Sweet Rain 死神の精度) is the new movie offering by Takeshi Kaneshiro. In this movie, he acted as a Shinigami (Grim Reaper) called Chiba (named after the area he is in charged of), who judged whether his subjects are worthy of death. Everytime he "works", it always rained and he never get to see his sunny day. He loves music, "the greatest invention of humanity". In the plot, he has 3 subjects: the first being a OL with very low self-esteem, second is a gangster and the third is an old hairdresser. His boss, the black dog, always wondered why he bothers to judge when he usually go ahead with his subjects' death. For your information, no voice was dubbed for the dog. Only words come out in the form of subtitles. So when the dog laugh, the word "laugh" will appear. Haha!

I love this movie and I am giving it a 4/5. Besides the fact that Takeshi Kaneshiro's character is funny and so yummy-looking, it is a "feel-good" movie and of cos, meaningful theme behind the movie. Although there was no climax, the funny scenes worked just fine for me. As the Grim Reaper was not from this world, he always created a butt of jokes with words and complained why there's so many new words to learn.

Watch it for: its "feel-good" plot, very handsome grim reaper, the funny scenes, the very nice theme song "Sunny Day"

Here's the theme song by the actress(the OL, Kazue Fujiki) in the show:

"Someday, I will see my sunny day like Chiba."

FYP Poster day

Posted by Picasa

Finally! Here the finale is over! :) FYP poster day was supposedly a day to present your final year project to your moderators. However, most of the time we were running around and taking group shots. So i rather called it the Convocation Prelude. Who cares if the backgrounds were all posters? It's the fun!
