Our 4th Anniversary @ Ristorante Da Valentino

Every anniversary, we will make it a point to try different kind of cuisine. For our 1st year, we had Turkish cuisine at Sofra. Then on our 2nd year, we had western cuisine at Aerins and my secret garden. Last year, we went for Japanese buffet at Minori. This year, we opted for Italian at Ristorante Da Valentino.

The ambience and the settings seemed to have transported me back in time to Italy. Everything from the decor and the food are very authentic italian style. It has to be since this place was run by an italian family.

Apologise if my picture appeared dim cos' I didnt dare to use the flash in such an "atas" (posh) place. Despite its homely feel, you cant help but notice those diners coming are really the taitais, their rich husbands and kids. Beside us were a group of "atas" Indonesian-chinese couples, decked in their branded clothes, bags (birkin and chanel clutch) and the precious gems on their finger that were too big to be missed.

Among all our anniversary, this was by far the most expensive one. But we felt that by far were the best meal we ever had, worth every single cent spend. We first had the complimentary bread with parsley olive oil dip. I must say that the bread was a gazillion time better than those tasteless and hard "non-complimentary bread" we had over at Italy. Sky stayed away from his most hated parsley while I slowly savour every bite of my bread with the dip. Yum...mie

The starter, fried calamari, as described by Sky, was "spectacular". Indeed, it was the best calamari we ate - so "light" and soft. Following that was the squid ink linguine with crabmeat sauce, which I enjoyed very much. Maybe it has been a long time since i tasted any really fantastic pasta after the memorable cabonara I shared with Jan in Rome. This one really captured my heart, especially the chunks of fresh crabmeat and the creamy taste was good enough to satisfy creamy pasta-lover like me.

We were already quite full after the pasta. There came along our pizza - authentic italian thin-crusted pizza. The ham and mushroom pizza was the size of a typical large pizza. Both of us managed to ate 4 slices each. What an achievement...

The last bit of space in our stomach was left for our desserts and hazelnut cuppa. We ordered the tiramisu and Valentino cake (rum and raisin dark chocolate cake). Unfortunately, we didnt get to try the Chantily, their signiture cake. The tiramisu was fantastic and the thick layer of dark chocolate on the Valentino cake did remind me of the Sachertorte or Annatorte I had in Vienna. The hazelnut cuppa definitely hit the spot. How I wished I had more rooms for desserts :( .

Our tummy were really bursting at the end. :) Indeed satisfying! Both of us absolutely love this place!
